Zed Books Ltd
Zed was founded in 1977 and publishes around 70 books a year on international and Third World issues.
It is managed co-operatively by its worker directors and has no shareholders. Its purpose is the publication and effective distribution of 'books that matter'. Its subject lists include Development and Environment Studies, Politics and Economics, Gender and Cultural Studies, Asian, Middle Eastern, African and Latin American Studies. Zed's authors include such famous intellectuals, writers and activists as Nawal el Sadaawi, Vandana Shiva, Samir Amin, Maria Mies, Wolfgang Sachs, Immanuel Wallerstein, and Ashis Nandy. Many of its books are published in association with a wide variety of other organisations, including scholarly international institutes, non-governmental organisations and Third World publishers.
