Lunch/Industry of Chung

Lunch is the UK’s first quarterly ‘green’ magazine aimed at fashionistas who might not see themselves as eco-warriors but are still – or want to become – environmentally and ethically aware.

With its tagline of 'Give as good as you get', Lunch is a lifestyle magazine which says that your individual lifestyle can make a difference without having to sacrifice any of your trendiness. Although at present it has a small print run (first issue ran to 5,000 copies, second issue to 10,000), it is aimed at a small segment of UK society that has a big voice - young, professional parents who are also opinion formers and influencers.

The magazine is designed by Herbert Winkler - whose quirkiness was behind *Wallpaper magazine - and edited by Karen Chung - also formerly with *Wallpaper and, before that, Vogue - so it has style as well as substance. Chung is also taking an ethical stand on advertising: the first issue ran without ads, the second features ads for Action Aid's 'Bollocks to Poverty' campaign, with Belu Spring Water on the prestigious outside back cover (see elsewhere on LRS's website for Belu's case study). If she doesn't like the content or intent of your ad, it won't run; and if she thinks your ad is ugly, it definitely won't get in!

But Lunch has a serious purpose: Chung's main point is that individuals can make a difference - but that doesn't mean you can't have fun while you're trying to save the planet.  Lunch is available online and UK-wide through a variety of outlets - check their website for stockists.

London Rebuilding Society's 'contribution' was to make a £15,000 loan to finance the second 'dummy' issue and its launch event at Borough Market.
