Proper Oils
Proper Oils was set up in April 2007 to collect used cooking oil from caterers, refine it to the highest quality biodiesel, and supply it to local organisations for use as fuel. LRS lent £60,000 to provide working capital to operate Proper Oil's first refinery in Twickenham.
Proper Oil's aim is to replicate the Twickenham operation by setting up small local refineries in other areas. Keeping the operation local in this way produces sustainable benefits whilst still refining a viable amount of oil at each site:
· Economic - the amount of money kept in the local economy is maximised and collection/delivery costs are minimised by collecting from local caterers and supplying biodiesel to local customers.
· Social - 6 local jobs will be provided per refinery and the impact on the local neighbourhood is minimal (only 6 vehicle movements / day).
· Environmental - operations are local and provide the opportunity to demonstrate to all stakeholders the benefits of local recycling.
Each refinery will be able to produce 15,000 litres of biodiesel per week, and will collect from approximately 2000-2500 caterers.
