Croydon Appliance Reuse Centre

Croydon Appliance Reuse Centre (ARC) provides a bulky waste (i.e. electrical appliances and furniture) collection service to Local Authorities, hotels, hospitals and businesses.

It also aims to reuse discarded items, thereby helping to avoid landfill as well as reducing the carbon emissions associated with production of new goods.

Selected appliances are refurbished and safety-tested within the ARC's workshops by skilled engineers. Furniture, both from donations and the collections service is safety checked and minor repairs made. Refurbished goods are sold direct to the general public, or via local charities, with special discounts offered to those receiving benefits.

Croydon ARC also provides training and employment opportunities for people in need, and offers a number of volunteer placement opportunities with many volunteers moving into paid employment with the ARC.

Croydon ARC received a £50,000 loan from LRS in 2007 to help cash flow and a further £50,000 in 2009 to set up a retail location in central Croydon.
