Cycle Training UK
Cycle Training UK is a not-for-profit co-operative founded in 1998 to promote cycling as a sustainable form of transport.
According to Transport 2000, only 20% of people in the UK get enough exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle and satisfactory fitness levels.
Health problems due to low levels of physical activity are now one of the 10 leading global causes of death and serious illness, responsible for 2 million deaths worldwide each year.
It is for all these reasons that Cycle Training UK (CTUK), a not-for-profit co-operative, was founded in 1998 to promote cycling as a sustainable form of transport.
Many people think that London's streets are too dangerous for cyclists, so CTUK believes that the best way to promote cycling is to teach people how to use their bikes safely and with confidence. In a recent survey, CTUK asked its trainees how the training had affected their cycle use, and 81% said that they now cycled more often and more confidently. CTUK also runs cycle maintenance courses.
CTUK has received two loans from LRS. The first was for £20,000 matched with £30,000 from ICOF/CCF to ease cash flow problems that regularly arise from seasonal changes in training demand. The second (£30,000) was also a cash flow facility and was also matched by ICOF/CCF.
